"Welcome To Our Updates"

"GIVING THOSE WITH A BAD START A NEW BEGINNING"

SINCE NOVEMBER 1986

4th Quarter 2015 UPDATES

WELCOME

We want to humbly thank all of our faithful supporters; those that give monthly, quarterly, or with one time gifts. Your support has been what has made us successful financially.

We look forward to another successful quarter ahead and that we will be able to continue to give you good updates.

Pray for us as we pray for you.

MARY’S THOUGHTS

I heard a quote recently by Dr. Martin Luther King that has greatly encouraged me. It says, “If you can’t fly, then run; if you can’t run, then walk; if you can’t walk, then crawl. Whatever you do, just keep moving forward.” Life is a journey and growth is a process. Philippians 3:13 and 14 implies this as we are exhorted to “forget those things which are behind and reach forward to those things which are ahead… press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” We are reminded in Proverbs that the Lord directs our steps, and in Psalms the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. Self-condemnation used to be my resident enemy – you know, the one with pet names like should’a, could’a, would’a - until revelation came and I evicted him, in Jesus’ name. At times he still comes knocking on the door of my mind with added houseguests of guilt and shame. I have to remind him he has no place in me, not even for a visit. You see, I keep my eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith. I am confident He is ordering my steps, so the mode or speed at which I travel is not an issue anymore as long as I know who is with me on this journey, and together we keep moving forward in His will and purposes…. Be encouraged today, whether you are in a stage of flying, running, walking, or crawling, Jesus in you is what really matters!

BASIC SCHOOL FEEDING & TUITION

Thanks to our faithful supporters’ generosity, we have been able to start off this 1st school term with all the food supplies and tuition budgets met.

We, the staff & students at both the Mt. Zion & Mt. Peto Basic schools are

very thankful.

AFTER SCHOOL READING CLASS

Good Report

On Friday, September 11 the results of the National Literacy Assessments were announced. Almost immediately Mary received a call from Desron Campbell’s mother – he not only mastered it, but had the highest score of the school! Desron has been a summer school student, as well as after school reading and test prep class participant. We also congratulate for their mastery scores three others who were in New Beginnings classes – Tariq Parkin, Melissa Williams, and Javorie Quarrie! The children were taught not only to be diligent in their studies, but to trust in Jesus. During the devotional time prior to each class, the children made out loud declarations: “ I can do all things through Christ who gives me the strength and God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind; therefore, I will become an excellent reader and I will pass my test the first time!” Mary shared with one of the grateful mothers how her son was eating the fruit of his lips! Halleljuah.

There are a few students in the community who must re-sit the exam, so New Beginnings is reaching out to them with a new set of after-school classes. In addition, students from the 3rd and 4th grade classes in need of extra help will also be joining the classes commencing Monday, October 5th.

Also, we were led to put flyers up in all the local shops advertising tutoring for reading, math, and writing. Several inquiries have been made from adults – this is another step forward in the vision of the ministry – evening classes in adult education.

We are committed to bringing literacy to this community, believing one of Satan’s greatest tools is to keep people illiterate and unable to read His Word!!

ROMANDO’S COLLEGE GOAL

The financial goals that we have been believing for to enable Romando to apply to Harrisburg Area Community College have been met, and his application has been sent in.

We are now awaiting to hear from HACC of his acceptance and the I-20 to present at the US Embassy to obtain his Student Visa.

We thank everyone for their help, and ask for your continued prayers as we walk with Romando into his new season.
